Project Spotlight: Hollidaysburg Veterans Home

The Hollidaysburg Veteran’s Home in Duncansville, Pennsylvania, was developed to provide long-term residential care and support for the men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces. As a VA residential facility, the home offers veterans a stable, secure environment designed to promote comfort, dignity, and community. Facilities such as this play an important role in delivering ongoing medical support, daily living assistance, and social engagement opportunities tailored to the needs of aging veterans. Beyond its physical structure, the building represents a continued commitment to honoring service through safe, well-constructed spaces that support quality of life.

Constructed with durability and long-term performance in mind, the building incorporates materials and systems selected to protect occupants while maintaining operational efficiency. A key component of the exterior envelope involved the sealing of 255 windows throughout both the interior and exterior of the facility. Proper glazing and perimeter sealing are essential in residential care environments to ensure weather resistance, energy efficiency, occupant comfort, and long-term façade integrity.

Nittany Contractors completed the glazing and weatherproofing using Pecora 895NST Structural Silicone Glazing & Weatherproofing Sealant in the color Charcoal Gray. This color was used to match the window perimeters. Pecora 895NST is a neutral-curing, medium-modulus silicone sealant specifically designed for structural and non-structural glazing applications. It is commonly used for structural glazing of glass, metal, and plastic; non-structural glazing including cap, toe, and heel beads; and perimeter sealing of doors and windows. Its ±50% dynamic movement capability allows the sealant to accommodate anticipated building movement while maintaining seal integrity.

In addition to structural performance, 895NST is a member of Pecora’s Non-Staining Technology (NST) line of silicone sealants. Traditional silicone formulations may contain nonreactive fluid components that can migrate into substrates and cause staining or residue runoff. Pecora’s NST formulation eliminates these free-fluid molecules, helping to prevent staining of porous materials and residue rundown on non-porous surfaces. This technology supports the long-term appearance of building façades and minimizes aesthetic concerns associated with fluid migration.

With Pecora 895NST installed across all 255 windows, the Hollidaysburg Veteran’s Home is equipped with dependable structural glazing performance, consistent weather protection, and a clean, lasting façade appearance. These elements contribute to a well-sealed building envelope that supports the facility’s purpose of providing veterans with a secure, durable, and comfortable residential environment.
