Atlantic Plumbing Building – Washington, D.C.

 

Washington, D.C.’s North End Shaw neighborhood is quickly becoming an electrified artistic hub. The 9:30 club highlights the area music scene, bordered by innovative retail and restaurants. Such a vibrant area certainly deserves housing of equal importance. Atlantic Plumbing is one unique answer.

It’s a 10-story, 310-suite apartment complex that rises from the ashes of a former plumbing company, offering approximately 19,100 sq. ft. of retail and artist space. Architect Morris Adjmi drew inspiration from abandoned industrial buildings reclaimed by nature, incorporating elements of Atlantic Plumbing’s former life into its design. The roof decks feature overgrown flora, and a graffiti artist was hired to paint the elevator shaft, which is visible from the exterior. Salvaged signs and a “gum wall” from the 9:30 club provide quirky industrial elegance while promoting sustainability.

The amenities can’t be beat: there’s a rooftop terrace and pool, indoor/outdoor bars, a yoga studio, fitness center, private gardening plots and a movie theater.

Project Scope

Pecora NST products were submitted by HITT Contracting and chosen from a pool of 5 manufacturers. This project exemplifies Pecora’s lasting partnerships: it was a joint effort between Pecora, Service Glass Industries, and J&W Caulking.

For this project, Pecora 890NST and 864NST silicone sealants were distributed to J&W Caulking and Service Glass Industries. Pecora has maintained an excellent relationship with Service Glass for years, thanks to the efforts of our longtime Southeast Regional Manager Donald Coltharp. Our MD/VA/DC area rep Andrew Stone has strengthened this relationship further, providing exceptional Pecora service for countless projects in the region.

Pecora 890NST and 864NST are non-staining silicone sealants that react with atmospheric moisture to form a durable, flexible building sealant. Under dynamic conditions, they perform exceptionally, due to the ultra-low modulus of 890NST and low modulus of 864NST.

Pecora Protects Atlantic Plumbing

J&W Caulking installed the perimeter beads, which seal the window where it meets the substrate. Low modulus silicone sealants like our NST line work well for perimeter seals - they often involve dissimilar substrates. Service Glass used the NST line for the internal window sealants.

Custom colors of Pecora 890NST and 864NST were applied to the Atlantic Plumbing complex. While Pecora offers standard colors for our sealants, our color-matching lab can make custom colors for any project.   

Best of all, Atlantic Plumbing is protected by the non-staining functions of our NST sealants. Years of harsh weather conditions or exposure to UV rays have little effect on Pecora NST, and there’s no chance of residue rundown that causes costly damage and callbacks.
