During the mock up stage, the architectural firm searched for a more aesthetically pleasing alternative to the smooth silicone at the control joints and at the perimeter of the windows. The slick sheen of the sealant did not compliment the brick's mortar. Pecora’s 890FTS-TXTR was just what they were looking for.

Fordham University, the Jesuit University of New York, is rich in history byt has its eye to the future and not just the future of the University. Fordham is committed to the environment and sustainability in its operations.

Fordham has pledged to build all new facilities to the standard LEED Silver Certification of the United States Green Building Council (USGBC). Two dormitories, Conley/Salice Hall, and Campbell Hall at the Rose Hill campus are the first LEED buildings on campus and will meet those stringent energy and environmental standards.

Designed by the internationally known architectural firm Sasaki Associates, the two residence halls provide over 76,000 square feet of space for 450 upper class students. As an alternative to the traditional dormitory model of a long corridor with rooms on each side, each building will have two towers joined at the base and will provide apartment style units including a multipurpose room, cafe and classrooms open to the general campus population. These spaces will be clearly visible through large areas of glass in a heavily textured base of gray brick and slate.

During the mock up stage, Sasaki Associates searched for a more aesthetically pleasing alternative to the smooth silicone at the control joints and at the perimeter of the windows. The slick sheen of the sealant did not comliment the brick's mortar. Consultant Frank Seta researched alternatives and met with Pecora's New York City representative John Hack of B&L Group. John showed the consultant Pecora's 890FTS-TXTR silicone product. With Pecora's 890FTS, an architect can choose a smooth or textured finish and can choose from 51 standard colors or have a custom color created in Pecora's state of the art color lab. A custom color was requested to match the grey brick of the facade and Pecora's Technical Service department conducted adhesion testing. With an enthusiastic approval of the mock up, 300 gallons of Pecora 890FTS-TXTR were mixed to mitigate NYC labor rates and applied by Kings County Waterproofing of Brooklyn, NY.

Not only did the University meet its goal of designing and constructing buildings that ensure environmental sustainability, Fordham was also able to preserve the historic ambiance of the campus with the design and materials chosen for Conley/Salice Hall and Campbell Hall.
