The Chanticleers are ready to play ball at their reconstructed baseball stadium thanks in part to Pecora-Deck on the upper and lower level mezzanine walkways.

Construction started on Watson Stadium after the 2012 season, with the Coastal baseball team playing their home games at other local venues for the 2013 season before returning to their new confines in 2014.

The two-level mezzanine deck was designed with occupied space underneath both levels so a traffic grade waterproofing was required. Dynatrol I-XL polyurethane sealant was used at all wall, column perimeters and seat brackets. Pecora-Deck 800 Pedestrian traffic coating (P-808 primer, 802 Base Coat and 806 Top Coat) was used on the upper and lower levels of the stadium after high pressure water blasting was done to prepare the surface. Colonial Gray was chosen for the top coat color. Each Pecora-Deck system application is uniquely designed to provide protection and sustainability. The number of necessary elastomeric layers and the use of aggregate will vary by application.

The 33,000-square-foot baseball project expands the 850-seat Watson Stadium to include 2,500 permanent seats, with the potential to accommodate between 5,000-6,000 for events like an NCAA postseason tournament. The current configuration will accommodate the extra 3,000-plus fans as a result of grass berms down the right and left field lines and a boardwalk around the outfield wall.

"With our baseball program playing in an NCAA Regional in 10 of the last 11 years , Coastal has reached the point where hosting a Regional or Super Regional is very realistic," Director of Athletics Hunter Yurachek said. "Being able to showcase our entire campus for those large events will be a tremendous benefit to Chanticleer Athletics, the University and the entire region. The renovation will put our baseball facilities among the nation's upper echelon."

In addition to providing all the amenities of the nation's best venues, the baseball and softball renovations will make Coastal Carolina fully compliant with the American with Disabilities Act.
