Managing Moisture During Air Barrier Application

 

In construction, schedules rarely wait for ideal weather. When rain arrives earlier than expected, managing moisture during air barrier application becomes critical to maintaining performance and avoiding rework. Understanding how substrate conditions and product capabilities interact can help contractors stay on track while protecting the integrity of the building envelope.

Moisture at the substrate level plays a direct role in adhesion and overall system performance. Air barrier systems require substrates to be clean, dry, and free of contaminants to ensure proper bonding and continuity across the wall assembly. In conditions where rain or elevated moisture is present, sequencing of installation, along with proper detailing of flashings and sealants, is essential to prevent water from being enclosed within the assembly.
