Pecora Joint Sealant Chemical Compatibility Cleaning Agents, Degreasers, & Detergents

Last month Constructive Conversations discussed the necessary steps Pecora is taking to ensure a safe environment for employees, customers, distributors, and carriers. This included applying a 24-hour bacteria/virus disinfectant on all touchpoints throughout the offices and warehouse, and all common surfaces cleaned at the start of each day. Like Pecora, many businesses around the country are utilizing cleaning agents in their facilities to protect employees.

Pecora joint sealants are routinely applied in interior applications. These sealants are subjected to periodic cleanings, even more now, involving various cleaning agents, degreasers, sanitizers, disinfectants, and detergents. Application locations include, but are not limited to, laboratories, cafeterias, cleanrooms, lavatories, food processing facilities, hospitals, etc. To ensure the joint sealants are compatible and acceptable for use in areas exposed to these chemicals, it is important for the applicator and sealant manufacturer to work together for a solution.

Pecora recommends the following joint sealants for use in interior applications:

  • Silicone Sealants
    • Pecora 898NST Sanitary Silicone Sealant
    • Pecora 860 Acetoxy Silicone Sealant
    • Others as recommended by Pecora Technical Service
  • Hybrid (STPU) Sealants
    • Pecora DynaTrol I-XL Hybrid Sealant
    • Pecora DynaFlex SC Security Sealant
    • Others as recommended by Pecora Technical Service
  • Acrylic Latex Sealants
    • Pecora AC-20+ Silicone Sealant
    • Pecora AC-20FTR Temperature & Fire Rated Sealant
    • Others as recommended by Pecora Technical Service

Based on extensive field use, the following classes of cleaning product solutions are generally compatible with the afore-mentioned fully cured Pecora joint sealants:

  • Hydrogen Peroxide
  • Sodium Hypochlorite
  • Peracetic Acid
  • Acetic Acid
  • Alcohols
  • Citric Acid
  • Most emulsifying detergents

For any questions, Pecora Technical Service will review the specific cleaning solutions on a per project basis and provide written approvals for submittal purposes. Pecora Technical Service can be reached via email at techservices@pecora.com or by phone at 1-800-355-8817.

***Prolonged or continuous exposure to the cleaning solutions is not advisable. Pecora recommends following the manufacturer’s instructions for use and application including any required rinsing or wash-downs following the cleaning process.
